The Waterbeach Spa - Goodwood Hotel, Chichester, West Sussex

5 October 2016

The Waterbeach Spa is an important component of the overall Goodwood experience (read our review here). Situated within the hotel’s health club, the emphasis is on natural and holistic treatments. As soon as you walk past the bright, airy reception, stresses and strains really do begin to melt away. There are many fantastic traditional Elemis treatments to try alongside volcanic hot basalt stone massage, Indian head massage, and reflexology, but we wanted to experience the Elemental Herbology range. Using therapeutic levels of plant compounds, herbal extracts, essential fatty acids, botanical oils, pure essential oils and anti-oxidants, this British-based company ensure that all products are 100% free from synthetic fragrances, sulphates and parabens. Everything is based around the Five Element Theory from Traditional Chinese Medicine with products relating to each element: wood, fire, earth, metal and water.

We chose to sample The Five Element Aroma massage. Having filled in a questionnaire relating to diet, mood and energy levels, it was determined that the element of Earth was predominant. There are two options for this specific type of treatment: either 60 minutes or 90 minutes. We opted for the 60 minute.

This wonderful aromatherapy massage blends customised essential oil infusions with herbal steam towels, heated stones and skilful therapeutic techniques, incorporating both Eastern and Western massage to deliver the ultimate treatment. Wood was prescribed for rejuvination, fire for zest, earth for balance, metal for detoxifying and water to soothe. We certainly felt rebalanced afterwards!

The only downside about being at The Waterbach Spa was that our time here was way too short. Next time we look forward to trying the Green Tea, Guarana and Grapefruit Detox, the Jasmine and Tuberose Infused Foot Soak or the Macadamia and Pomegranate Hot Oil or Acupressure Scalp Massage.
