As more and more research reveals the toxicity of many leading perfume brands, we are always looking to discover non-toxic fragrances that not only smell amazing, but have a firm focus on wellness. Many of today’s perfumes contain a mixture of natural and synthetic chemicals which can cause headaches, dermatitis, respiratory issues and even affect women’s fertility.

April Aromatics was founded by Tanja Bochnig. She is also the company’s chief perfumer. From her earliest childhood, Tanja possessed a highly developed sense of smell and a passion for scents. As she began to travel extensively, she discovered the healing powers of essential oils and began using them to treat ailments. After studying aromatherapy, botany and natural perfumery with renowned perfumers, Tanja decided to launch her own series of organic perfumes and cosmetics. The name of the company is based on its founder’s birthday, who was born on 1st April. It is also the time in the year when nature is reviving itself after winter’s slumber.

Based in Berlin, Tanja follows a holistic lifestyle and extends this approach to her work as a perfumer: “It is my passion to create beautiful smelling, botanical perfumes and to share the healing power of nature with the world.” With April Aromatics, she has achieved her vision, and has created a stunning array of scents made from high quality, pure ingredients which are all truly captivating with each fragrance as unique as its evocative name. As it’s currently summer, we instinctively gravitated towards the following fragrances, but within the collection there are perfumes to cover all seasons and all moods.

Rosenlust is the absolute perfect fragrance for the summer months comprising roses from Turkey, India, Bulgaria and England. This is such a feminine scent and reminds us of an English summer garden in full bloom.  The rose is often considered the “queen” of all flowers. symbolising love, peace and beauty. This perfume embodies the freshness of a verdant “green” rose and it was one of the bottles we kept reaching for.

Another of our favourites is Pink Wood. the name alone is enchanting but the scent is absolutely intoxicating. A harmonious blend of root extracts and earth-bound plants, including Sandalwood. Agarwood, Cystus, Labdanum, and Oakwood with heart notes of Rose Otto, Rose absolute, Geranium, Rosewood and sweet pink fruity accents, sprinkled with finely aged patchouli. We found Pink Wood to be incredibly grounding and its soft woody tones, incredibly comforting.

Ray of Light is as bright as it sounds. An explosion of zesty lemon combined with pink grapefruit, oranges and bergamot. There are also flashes of mint with base notes of vetiver and aromatic blond tobacco which adds depth to the sparkle of the citrus fruits. It’s such a fresh scent to wear on a long, hot, summer’s day.
